When the generator on my boat failed I had to fit a new generator on the end of the diesel engine. This was not too difficult and could be done in the boat. But later a water pipe failure cauled the engine to seaze up. This meant raising the whole generator out of the engine bay and fit net pistorn. A bit project only for a good machanic with tools, but I did it myself and saved a fortune.
