This is the story of how I altered a perfectly sound ketch into a schooner, just because I wanted to. It explains the reasoning behind such a drastic project, and even if you never decide to do it (unless you are out of your mind) it’s a good very interesting read. I always wanted a brigantine, which is a schooner with a square sail on the foremast. But I couldn’t find one for sale anywhere, so I decided to make one myself, that turned out to be the ultimate DIY project. Britannia is now a beautiful and unique cruising sailboat which turns heads whether at sea or in a dock.
